GAA NEWS: BUNCRANA CLUB NOTES

first_imgCongratulations: The club would like to congratulate team mentor Gary Duffy and panelist Kevin O’Loughlin on their victory over Cavan in the Ulster Minor Championship on Sunday. A rewarding day for Donegal football was also a notable day for Buncrana GAA, as not only did senior player Ryan Bradley line out for the seniors, but younger brother Ben also starred for the Cumann na mBunscoile side during the half-time game. Congratulations to the four lads and best of luck to Ryan, Kevin and Gary in the next round of the Ulster Championship.U8 Football: 22 children from the U8 football group attended their first Northern Board Blitz of the season on Sat 19th at Letterkenny Gaels. They competed against Glenswilly, Naomh Colmcille and Letterkenny Gaels in a total of 6 different games. Three different Buncrana teams took to the pitches and equipped themselves well in all games against some strong opposition. Great fun was had by all and was a valuable experience for the kids in this early stage of their footballing development. Team management would like to thank Letterkenny Gael for hosting the blitz and for the help of all the attending parents. There are several more blitz’s to be played through out the summer – as schedule of which can be seen in the club house. Training as usual Friday night 6.30pm to 7.30pm. U12 Football: The U12 Footballers were in action last Monday night in Kilygordon versus Red Hugh’s. Impressive displays by the young Buncrana lads resulted in a win for both the A and B teams. The scoreline in the A match was 2-16 to 2-2, with Aaron Craig and Aaron McDaid on form, and the score in the B match was 5-4 to 1-11, with eye-catching displays from Kylin Grant, Owen Redmond and Shane Doherty. Best of luck to all the lads and the management team.Senior Ladies Football:The Buncrana Ladies played their fourth league match at home on Sunday against Termon on Sunday. Thankfully the playing conditions where much better than the gale force winds of last weekends game. The management team of Martin Mullan and Brian Stokes asked for the team to bounce back from the disappointing defeat last week against Gweedore, and the team delivered. Buncrana got off to a flying start, putting pressure on Termons defence right from the throw-in. However, despite such a blistering start and good first half; Buncrana failed to convert a lot of the chances and only went in at half-time a goal up. Half-Time: Buncrana 2-1 to Termon 1-1. Termon battled hard in the second half and 2 quick goals put them in the lead for the first time in the match. However, the determination and commitment of all the Buncrana ladies lead to their very own quick reply of 2 successive goals, putting them firmly in the lead and back in the driving seat. From here, Buncrana lead all the way to the final whistle, thanks to a great defensive display from the entire back line to hold off any Termon attack; to the fantastic forward runs from Buncrana’s midfielders and half-forward line supplying the strong and eager to score full-forward line. Full-Time: Buncrana 6-5 to Termon 3-2. Training continues on Wednesday evening from 7.15pm and Friday evening from 8pm.
