Man granted bail on larceny charges

first_imgAkeem Cort of Campbellville, Georgetown was arraigned on Friday last before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts in relation to two charges of larceny.Akeem CortThe first charge alleged that on June 19, 2019 at Campbellville, Georgetown, he stole from Jamal Cummings one bicycle valued at $15,000.The second charge alleged that on the same day, at Kitty, Georgetown, he stole from Joan Bailey a purse valued $2,600.The 24-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges, but facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh detailed that, on the day in question, the 64-year-old Bailey was walking along the roadway when she was approached by Cort, who was riding a bicycle which he had allegedly stolen from Cummings. He snatched the woman’s purse and attempted to escape; but an alarm was raised, and persons in the area apprehended and handed him over to the Police, and he was later charged with the offences.The prosecutor did not object to Cort being placed on bail, and thus he was placed on bail in the sum of $65,000 and under the condition that he reports every Monday to the Kitty Police Station until the hearing and determination of the cases.He was also instructed to make his next court appearance on July 26.last_img read more
