Homecomings

first_imgThis is homecoming season in football.  Tonight is Batesville’s Homecoming game with the Lawrenceburg Tigers.  I don’t know how long this tradition has been around, but for most of us it seems like it has always been there. There are many different traditions involved with Homecoming.  First, it was strictly for football.  Now schools might choose another sport for Homecoming, especially if they do not field a football team.  As far as I know, this tradition has not been around as long.  There has always been the crowning of royalty and floats from many different sources for a parade before the game.  It is a tradition for the senior class to win, so this brings about some spirited competition from the other 3 grades in their float building.  Sometimes it gets so “spirited” that the floats have to be locked up for safe keeping until the parade on Friday.Something that has been added in the last few years to high school homecomings has been the tailgating.  This college tradition is filtering down.  Hope to see you tonight at the Big Game!last_img read more
