‘No stray bullets, no major crimes in WV’

There was one case of indiscriminatefiring in Antique on Dec. 22. The suspect was arrested, said Pamuspusan. Last year, thePRO-6 recorded three stray bullet incidents with two persons injured, and onearrested for indiscriminate firing. On the other hand, the number of NewYear firecracker blast victims also dropped, said Pamuspusan, by 70.96 percent– from 93 during the 2019 New Year celebrations to only 27 this 2020 New Yearrevelry.  Accordingto Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, a total of 23petty crimes were recorded from 4 a.m. of Dec. 31 to 4 a.m. of Jan. 1 but thesedid not have adverse effects on the overall peace and order situation inWestern Visayas. center_img Of the 27 New Year firecracker blastvictims recorded as of 3 p.m. yesterday, Capiz had the most cases at 10,followed by Iloilo province (five), Bacolod City (three), Negros Occidental(three), Iloilo City (three), Guimaras (two), and Antique (one).  “The success of our holiday seasonsafety and security plan could be attributed to the strict implementation ofpolice operations and law enforcement, the one-strike policy on stray bulletscausing injury or death, awareness  and cooperation of the general public,especially on the use of firecrackers, and the strategic deployment of policepersonnel,” he added. Malongsaid the Antique police recorded three physical injury cases; Bacolod Citypolice had one robbery case; Capiz police had one physical injury case; IloiloCity police had one theft and five physical injury cases; Iloilo police had onemurder and four physical injury cases; and Negros Occidental police had sevenphysical injury cases.
